// SLOVENŠČINA //

-skladbe Elvisa Šahbaza so bile uporabljene v glasbeni opremi dokumentarnega filma “Tihotapci identitete”, ki sta ga leta 2015 podpisala Ervin Hladnik Milharčič & Marija Zidar; v glasbeni opremi igranega dokumentarnega filma “Srce jedne žene”, ki ga je leta 2016 ustvarila Andrejka Velikonja Skračić; ter v glasbeni opremi dokumentarnega filma “Dediščina furmanstva”, ki sta ga leta 2018 podpisala Dušan Milavec & Drago Mislej-Mef; -s svojimi kompozicijami je nastopil v vlogi glasbenega komentarja in spremljave v živo na Kino Otok Film Festival leta 2013 za “Sea Stories” (Morska serija) #5, #6, #9, #13 kanadskega filmskega ustvarjalca John-a Price-a; leta 2014, skupaj s Paridejem di Stefanom za “Creatio” Davorina Marca, leta 2016 za “14 Reels”, delo štirinajstih različnih režiserjev iz štirinajstih različnih koncev sveta;

-bil je del zasedbe izvajalcev v živo za “To Be Continued” 24-urni maratonski streaming dogodek ob World TB Day, v organizaciji Stazione di Topolo/Postaje Topolova, v Italiji;

// ENGLISH //

Elvis Šahbaz was born on an April afternoon in 1969 in Banja Luka, Bosnia, to a teenage mother. Where and how his music was born, however, is much harder to pinpoint.

A fiery mix of technical prowess and feeling on a nylon string classical guitar, with flavours ranging from flamenco to jazz via dreamy new age, Elvis says his love for music and acoustic instruments probably stems from his childhood times in Salzburg, Austria, where he lived for 7 years with his mother, who worked in the residence hall for the music students of the world famous Mozarteum. The scents of resins, wax and wood from the luthier shops down his street in front of which he would spend most of the day permeated his young nostrils, and forever fascinated his already developing musical soul.
But, the charms of the classical music world nonetheless, a “proper” music tuition seemed to elude him, as upon moving to his current home town of Isola, Slovenia, on the Adriatic coast, the local music school wouldn’t admit him for guitar tuition, and first diverted him to the trumpet, then dismissed him as “tone deaf”. Aged 10, Elvis fortunately stuck to his guns, or rather to his guitar, and has kept practicing and playing to this very day.

So it should come as no wonder that although they are never improvised, but always carefully composed, crafted and written, there is no musical score and there are no written musical notes for any of his tunes – it’s all in his head.

Even in his inevitable past as a teenage rocking electric guitarist, for example with short lived but revered bands Implosia and later Euphorbia, it was always about unwritten, unconventional instrumental music.

Although hard to define or categorize, it would appear that it is far easier to feel and fit his music within various contexts and art forms:

-the music of Elvis Šahbaz has been featured in the soundtrack of “Tihotapci identitete” (The Identity Smugglers), a 2015 documentary by Ervin Hladnik Milharčič & Marija Zidar; in the soundtrack of “Srce jedne žene” (The Heart of a Woman), a 2016 docu-movie by Andrejka Velikonja Skračić; and in the soundtrack of “Dediščina furmanstva” (The heritage of cart-drivers), a 2018 documentary by Dušan Milavec & Drago Mislej-Mef;

-he has performed his own compositions as live soundtracks at the Kino Otok Film Festival for “Sea Stories” (Morska serija) #5, #6, #9, #13 by Canadian filmmaker John Price in 2013 ; “Creatio” by Davorin Marc in 2014, with Paride di Stefano; “14 Reels” by 14 different directors from 14 different cities all around the world in 2016; -he was part of the cast of artists for the 2018 “To Be Continued” 24 hour live streaming concert for the World TB Day, hosted by Stazione di Topolo, Italy;

-he performed a live-on-stage musical intro for “Citta’ giardino” (Mestni vrtovi), a docu-movie by Marco Piccarreda, presented at the Kino Otok Film Festival 2018.

In November 2017 Elvis released his first full-length solo album, “Parenzana BluEs”, a 12 song CD recorded in the beautiful Venetian villa of Prosdocimi Recording Studio in Italy, produced and mixed by Andrea F.
Due to popular demand, a second pressing of the album has currently been reissued.

The new album, recorded in the Canary Islands, is scheduled for release in April 2019.
